Every aircraft on Winger is insured.
Aircraft owners are required to maintain hull and liability insurance on their aircraft at all times, including self-fly hire cover that extends to renting pilots like you. You're never flying an uninsured aircraft — insurance cover is a condition of every listing.
Your financial exposure is limited and known upfront.
In the event of damage during your rental, your responsibility is normally limited to the insurance excess — a fixed amount set by the owner and shown on the listing before you book. You'll always see this figure before you commit, so there are no surprises. Your worst-case exposure for a normal incident is a known, capped number, not an open-ended cost.
Flying within the rules keeps that protection in place.
The excess cap applies when you operate the aircraft properly — within your ratings, within the aircraft's limitations, and within safe weather minimums. As with any aircraft rental, flying without valid ratings, outside operating limits, or against the Flight Manual can make you personally responsible for costs beyond the excess. This is standard across all self-fly hire, and flying by the book keeps you covered.
You can check the aircraft's insurance before you fly.
Owners are required to provide evidence of current insurance on request. If you'd like to confirm cover before your flight, just ask the owner — it's a reasonable and normal thing to do.
Consider your own renter's cover.
Many pilots choose to hold their own renter's or non-owned aircraft insurance for extra peace of mind. A policy like this can cover the excess itself, further limiting what you'd ever pay out of pocket. It's optional, but worth considering if you rent regularly.
